AUX Magazine, an award-winning Canadian digital music magazine with 850,000+ downloads on iTunes Newsstand and Google Play, faced the challenge of ensuring a consistent and immersive user experience across various devices. This included mobile and tablet platforms, each requiring interactive features, video streams, and 360° photos. The additional challenge was that these tasks needed to be accomplished within tight turnarounds while maintaining visual and functional consistency.
The challenge was to ensure a seamless user experience across diverse devices, maintaining consistency in interactive features, video streams, and 360° photos on both mobile and tablet platforms within tight turnarounds.
Over a span of two years, I contributed to the mobile and tablet development of each monthly issue. To address the challenge, we took several actions:
Responsive Design: Implementing responsive design principles to ensure content adapted seamlessly to different screen sizes and resolutions on both mobile and tablet devices.
Interactive Features: Collaborating with the editorial and design teams to create interactive features that engaged readers and enriched their reading experience.
Optimized Video Streaming: Ensuring that video content was optimized for playback on various devices, offering high-quality streaming without buffering issues.
360° Photo Integration: Developing techniques to include 360° photos that were fully accessible and interactive on both mobile and tablet platforms.
Our efforts resulted in an enhanced user experience, regardless of the device, even while working under tight turnarounds. The visual and functional consistency we achieved made reading AUX Magazine a seamless and enjoyable experience for readers across both mobile and tablet platforms, maintaining and possibly increasing the magazine's impressive download numbers on iTunes Newsstand and Google Play.
